I mentioned
PlayDeb, from the
GetDeb guys, as being something to
be really excited about with the upcoming release of Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. I just checked out the site and their
new beta is finally up and running! They currently are only serving Jaunty (which is fine since Karmic is only in alpha) but Karmic support is sure to come.
The new site was designed by the
Nexuiz Nijnaz, players of the great cross-platform FLOSS game,
Nexuiz. I am a bit disappointed seeing copyright retained on the site instead of using a free culture friendly license like the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license, but it looks like this is just what both the Nexuiz and GetDeb guys do on all their websites and i certainly won't make a big deal about that. The website is wonderful, and they've done a great job. The "
Updates" page lists all the available games and allows you to filter them by genre, and install them by simply clicking on an apt:// link.
Each game has a description and screenshot, and many even have videos attached! You can
register to rate and comment on games, and if you like PlayDeb, i encourage you to use the donate button on their "
About Us" page.
In related news: The
Ubuntu Gaming Team just had our first meeting which was very successful and i'll be posting all the details soon!

Sucks that they don't have it under CC-BY-SA. That puts me off. But at least the site is cool right?
I started a NPO a while ago, we're building free open source cross platform games.

Our foundation's websites won't be under cc because of keeping an unique indentity. It's like a contact info card or name; the info of how to build a website is out there for free, so are lots of websites templates.
So I totally understand their decision.
That is a cool site Danny, but it looks like some of their games are available for 9.10 (I saw gridwars at least), but I haven't tried it out.
@Dread Knight: thanks, your site looks good too.
We will be starting copying/testing some of the games on Karmic during the next weeks.
Hello, this is -z- from the Nexuiz Ninjaz. I redesigned the website for Playdeb. I released it to them under a free and open license, CC-BY-SA actually but was later requested to have it released under GPL, which I agreed to. In fact this template and the backend are available on launchpad: https://launchpad.net/apt-portal
"page created by a ninja" is kept in the footer out of respect. If you recall the page before this, you would see how much work actually went into design and usability.
I'd appreciate it if you'd correct your post. Glad you're excited though, I think this website is going to be a great thing for gamers and ubuntu.
you should really follow up on your comments
I tried emailing you for clarification, but never got a response. Please email me if you see this.
