Many many thanks to everyone who has donated to the Ubuntu @ Anime Boston campaign so far. It hasn't taken us long at all to surpass our first primary target of $700 and guarantee the Ubuntu Massachusetts LoCo Team's presence at the event. We have officially secured a booth from which we can showcase and promote Free and Open Source software to thousands of convention goers! This would not be possible without your generous support, so thank you all again; your contributions are invaluable to us.
Now that we will be attending, we need printed materials to distribute. Our next primary goal is for an additional $1500 to have copies of the Ubunchu Manga to give out. After we reach this milestone, we can get a lot more for a lot less. Community marketing events of this size are a rare opportunity, so lets make the very best of it! We welcome ideas and feedback in the comments or by email.

As I've said before, you should sell your copies for $1 to recoup costs! There's a big difference between the way people handle freebie handouts and how they handle a doujinshi that they've paid for with their own money.
Since Im writing this from Kubuntu (I hate Gnome more than any desktop since Win98) I wish you luck but id love to hear your spiel about why Ubuntu 'is the perfect candidate to become the new operating system of choice for all anime lovers'.
I like free software and anime but I dont see why an anime lover would care about their OS especially if theyre sporting their Iphone headphones for all to see.
Can you top 'cool'? Or the sensation of cool that overpaying for hardware and software brings you?
>yet diverse and open minded community
Yeah, I reallly hate when people take one thing a group has in common and tries to extrapolate a profile.
A guy got busted for kiddie porn in our city and he was a big anime fan. I have nothing in common with this guy but animes... not enough for me to want to be profiled with him.
Im sure there are murderers, psychopaths and BSD users (hehe!) who love anime too.
>An OS that is beautiful yet still highly customizable,
Ok, im a mac fanatic, convince me.
A beautiful OS isnt really a selling point.
Vista 7, Mac and KDE are equally gorgeous (did I mention I hate Gnome?) nowadays and each is going to claim that their prcious is the most gorgeoustic of all.
You want to convert people, you better have ready answers for different situations.
And you better have point by point reasons why.
I think FLOSS is a great thing and I have already converted a dozen family members to GNU-Linux and I wish you the best of luck. Any endeavour like this takes time, money and energy. And dedication.
This is not said to shit on your parade but just to hear what you are going to push as reason to switch.
Best of luck and dont forget:
take picture and videos or it didnt happen!!!
